Forest Rehabilitation
Forest Nursery
Realising the importance of forest rehabilitation and silviculture to the long-term sustainability of the managed natural forests, Pesama has embarked on a positive step towards rehabilitating/re-planting the exposed and damaged parts of the forest in an organised manner by first, focussing on re-plantingg of blank spaces and open areas, under a programme called "Tanaman Kawasan Lapang (TKL)" or Open-Area Planting (OAP). To this end, a forest nursery specially dedicated for this purpose is being established near the main logging camp area. Measuing 60m x 80m (approx 0.5ha), the nursery was completed and became operational during the middle of 2014, with an initial capacity of 40,000-50,000 seedlings of premium tropical timber tree species. These include major timber species of dipterocarps such as the Merantis, Keruings, Balaus, Kapur, Chengal, etc, as well as major non-dipterocarp species. Presently Pesama is in close communication and cooperation with the Terengganu State Forestry Department (TSFD) on this matter.
